Students who want to pursue MBBS in one of the AIIMSs since 2020 should attend only the National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test (NEET). On October 4, Harsh Vardhan Union Health Minister made a historical announcement that NEET would be the only entrance exam for admission to the MBBS course, with the exception of separate entrance exams conducted by AIIMS and JIPMER respectively.
As AIIMS MBBS disappears, students wishing to enter the MBBS program offered by AIIMS will need to adjust their strategies according to NEET.
If students only prepared for one entrance exam, the effort was reduced, but competition increased.
Including AIIMS and JIPMER in the NEET test is also associated with the cutoff mark. The test pattern also changes clearly. The AIIMS MBBS exam is a computer-based exam and the NEET remains a paper-based exam.
Based on the previous year's test pattern, we can assume that NEET UG 2020 will be a 3 hour OMR based test. The questionnaire has three parts: physics, chemistry, and biology. In biology there are two subsections: zoology and botany.
The NEET UG 2020 questionnaire has a total of 180 questions. In the Physics and Chemistry section, there are 45 questions each. The Biology section has 90 questions-45 questions in zoology and 45 questions in botany.
The pattern of NEET 2020 differs greatly from the AIIMS MBBS test pattern.
AIIMS MBBS 2019 was performed in computer-based mode. The trial period was 3 hours 30 minutes. The questionnaire has a total of five sections. In the Physics, Chemistry and Biology section there are 60 questions each. In the biology section there are questions of botany and zoology. In addition to this section, there are sections about general knowledge, aptitude and logical thinking. There are 10 questions in each of these two sections.
The advantage of NEET over AIIMS MBBS is that NEET has no additional section on general knowledge and logical thinking. However, the number of questions in the biology section is more for NEET than for the AIIMS MBBS exam. In terms of language, NEET has an advantage over AIIMS MBBS. In 2019, AIIMS MBBS was conducted in English and Hindi, and NEET UG was in English, Hindi, Assamese, Bangla, Gujarat, Kannada, Marathi, Odia, Tamil, Telugu and Urdu.
